Liquid pumps: superior performance and yield
In recent years, mature industrial manufacturers of CO2 extraction equipment have widely accepted that pumping liquids is the best way to design SCFE extractors. This is how Eden Labs has been designing supercritical CO2 systems since 2012. Eden recognizes that our customers are running their systems around the clock, so we completely redesigned the gas booster system and produced the Hi-Flo production line to reduce uptime and increase production so we can meet demand and lead the market customer of.
Through the liquid pumping system, cold dense liquid CO2 is sent to the inlet of the pump. The compressed liquid enters the heat exchanger from the outlet of the pump, which sets the extraction temperature. Liquid CO2 then enters through the bottom of the extraction vessel, where it will completely penetrate the material to be extracted and begin to dissolve the oil into the solution.
The suction pressure is determined by the regulating valve on the top of the separator. As the oil-saturated CO2 passes through the valve, it decompresses and flashes to gas, then releases the oil to the bottom of the cold separator for collection. The CO2 vapor leaves the separator and enters the cold heat exchanger where it condenses into a liquid. The liquid then flows into an accumulator, where it is further cooled to a dense liquid. The colder and denser the liquid, the higher the flow rate. This is because if it is cold and dense, each stroke of the pump will move more CO2.
Advantages and disadvantages of liquid pump systems
Advantage
The significant advantages of liquid pumping are: faster extraction times, higher yields, and higher extraction quality. In addition, the system is more reliable, lasts longer, has a longer service life, and does not interrupt production due to system fragility.
If the separator is designed correctly, the terpenes will be better retained than other designs because the higher pressure of the separator will keep the terpenes liquefied, so they will sink to the bottom of the separator for easy collection.
Unlike the lower pressures of gas boosters or dual pump systems, terpenes cannot re-enter the booster pump and cause severe damage.
Disadvantage
The disadvantage is simply that these systems are more complex and expensive to manufacture. There are no disadvantages to the end user running the equipment.
