Sanitary butterfly valves is specially designed for food, medicine, daily chemicals and other industries with high requirements for cleanliness and asepsis. Their core function is to control the flow of liquids in pipes,such as liquid medicines, food ingredients and pure water. Its structure and materials must conform to sanitary standards, no dead angle, easy to clean, corrosion resistance.
1.Core Features of Sanitary Butterfly Valve
The essential difference between sanitary butterfly valves and ordinary industrial butterfly valve lies in ``sanitary standard '', which is mainly reflected in three aspects:
Strict material standards: Fluid-contact components such as body, disc and seal must be made of 304/316L stainless steel (corrosion resistant, no heavy metal leaching). Seals are usually made of food-grade silicone rubber or polytetrafluoroethylene (FDA-certified materials, odorless, pollution-free).
Clean-Free Structure: The internal flow path is designed with smooth, rounded transitions, free of grooves, exposed threads, or other structures that can easily trap contaminants. When the valve is shut, the flow is completely closed and no liquid or impurities are left when the valve is opened. Compatible with CIP (in situ cleaning) and SIP (in situ disinfection) systems.

ii. Working Principle of a Sanitary Butterfly Valve
The core function of the valve is to control the flow by rotating the disc with the stem. Its overall structure is simple and running efficiently. There are three key steps to its operation:
Power drive stem rotation: The valve's opening/closing controlled by the drive device. There are two common drivers:
Manual actuation: Stem rotates through handle or handwheel. Suitable for small caliber, low voltage, laboratory, small production line, etc.. Automatic Actuation: The stem rotates through a pneumatic or electric actuator to provide rapid response (pneumatic actuation usually takes between 0.5 and2 seconds). This design applies to automated production lines that can be controlled remotely or connected to a control system.
Valve Disc Rotation Adjustment Path: One end of the valve stem is connected to the actuator the other end extends to the body, securing the disc (rounded to match the valve body's inner diameter).
Open: When the disc rotates parallel to the fluid, the fluid channel is completely unobstructed, minimizing fluid resistance and achieving maximum flow.
Close: When the disc rotates vertically with the fluid, the seal on the edge of the disc touches the inner wall of the valve body tightly, completely blocking the flow of fluid and preventing leakage.
Flow control: When the disc rotates between 0° and 90°, the cutoff area of the reflux can be varied by adjusting the angle (e.g. 30° C or 60° C) to precisely control the flow of fluid. Sealing and Hygiene Assurance (for applications requiring stable flow control, such as chemical mixing): When the valve is closed, the seal is tightly glued to the body by the pressure of the disc to ensure that no liquid leaks. In addition, smooth internal structure and sanitary materials prevent liquid residue and microbial growth. When cleaned, the valve can be flushed directly through a CIP system without removing the valve.

Food & Beverage Industry: Used for the transportation and control of juice, milk, beer, soy sauce, etc., such as raw material pipelines on production lines and switching channels before filling.
